Slung between two anchor ropes, Sulina is lying in an old arm of the Danube, our first voluntary anchorage! We are at the foot of a mountain with the impressive castle ruin of Greifenstein towering above us. And, we are only 16 kilometers away from Vienna!
Yes, a few days ago we celebrated with the last of the Veuve Clicquot (thank you, Michael Watene!) having finished the 2000's as we reached Danube kilometer 1999. It felt like a fine achievement, 400 kilometers of Danube travel completed. Tomorrow we will drive to Vienna where we will stay for a week or so and have a break from travelling.
It's interesting how we get a feeling of exotic lands approaching us simply by observing the barges. More and more, we see flags of countries we shall be passing through. Hungary, Rumania, and today for the first time we saw a cruise ship from Ukraine!
Till now, the water of the Danube has been green or grey, often brown and murky, not at all what a romantic would expect. But now finally, we have seen the 'Blue Danube'! How delightful!
